Online communities have become an increasingly trusted source of information, according to a report jointly released by GlobalWebIndex and Reddit.
This trust is particularly prominent among younger internet users. The report states that Generation Z trusts information found on community sites almost as much as they trust traditional news sources.
The era of we notes that communities based upon specific topics of interest to participants are preferred, providing a way to make connections with people who have similar interests.
Particularly noteworthy for consumer-focused businesses is the enthusiasm online community members show for the participation of brands within the community. The report notes that “82% of community site users would be receptive toward brands participating on these sites.”
